Description
While installing on Windows for issue #234, I found that versions 2.2.3 and earlier seem to require some libraries from the MinGW C compiler. Version 2.2.5 doesn't have the problem, so maybe we should test the new version of bowtie2 and upgrade all our deployments to use it.

Research direction
Start by locating the deployment configuration and installation references for bowtie2, then check how the Windows setup described in issue #234 uses versions 2.2.3 and earlier. Done means testing bowtie2 2.2.5 and updating all deployments so the MinGW library problem is no longer present.
