Helpful usage hints

I started to implement this a while back but got distracted with some other things. Basically, one pain point I've heard from users is they aren't sure what all the features and options do. Part of this is simply remedied with simple trial and error, but I thought it might be good to add a short description in a tooltip or panel of sorts to help give users more context to what these options are doing.
