Incorrect playback speed on Safari for 2 to 7 seconds

Is there something I can do to avoid this issue? on my M1 Macbook Air on Safari the playback speed starts too fast (and therefore the wrong/high pitch) but corrects itself after about 2 seconds. on my iPhone Safari it's more like 6 seconds. Chrome and Firefox (on the M1 at least) don't seem to have this problem.

I've tried a number of different file formats and codecs (including WAVs) and still experience this issue.

Reproduce the issue at https://fireworksordie.github.io/jvdsite/music using Safari on the reported MacBook and iPhone, then compare playback with Chrome and Firefox. Trace the playback-speed handling in the project and identify why Safari begins too fast; done means playback starts at the correct speed across the reported Safari environments.
