Feature request: allow for uneven width items to be packed

Works perfectly if each element is equal width, but seems to not pack correctly if some of the items have different width
i am doing correct math to spilt the elements across the cols but seems to not work

The issue does not identify a source file, test, or entry point. Reproduce the layout with items of unequal widths and inspect the packing behavior; done means those items are distributed across columns correctly without breaking the existing equal-width behavior.
