long initial startup

Your initial loading screen says it should only take a few seconds and asks me to report if it takes longer. It took about a minute, I’d guess. In fact, I was convinced it had hung. Shortly after I clicked the link to report it, it finally started.

Start by reproducing the initial loading sequence described in the issue and measure how long it takes before the editor starts. Investigate the startup path responsible for the loading screen; done means the initial load no longer appears hung or takes about a minute.
