Description

In a sentence using the word 'is', I get this suggestion:

`Try to avoid using 'is'.`

I don't think it _is_ reasonable to suggest avoiding a common transitive verb like 'is'. There _is_ really no way to avoid the word in any kind of writing, and it _is_ widely considered an appropriate verb regardless of industry or audience.
