Version of binary is unclear and github releases are misleading

Hi,

I'm finding the installation steps a bit opaque. Downloading a `.tgz` file without a version string makes me uneasy - I can't easily tell what git revision corresponds with your compiled version, so it's hard to tell what it might be missing.

There're also 4 released versions in GitHub releases, but the latest is nearly a year old. Is this the same as the `.tgz` in your instructions? ( https://cloud.box.com/shared/static/2pl4pi6ykvrbb9d06t4m.tgz )
