Description
I proposed to move Quick Select to core widgets, but we decided for Educational. This seemed a reasonable decision after my explanation that the widget is used in the classroom when we don't want to impose the gui-heavier Select Rows on the teacher.
When I started moving it, I realized that Educational is meant for explanation of algorithms on the university level (Interactive k-means, Polynomial clasification [with decision boundaries...], Polynomial regression, Gradient descent...). Quick Select doesn't belong here. Furthermore, non-university teachers would install the Pumice add-on (plus Geo, plus maybe Networks), and this would force them to install another add-on, Educational, with a single usefule widget and with misleading name (for them).
In this light, keeping it in Prototypes is actually better, although it's fully mature and useful widget.
Even a solution that most of us opposed -- having two interfaces in Select Rows -- now seems better to me.
I'm writing this issue to remind us to reopen this question at the next meeting.

Research direction
No files, tests, or entry points are named. Review the Quick Select widget's current location and its use in classroom workflows, then bring the placement question to the next project meeting; done means an agreed location or interface decision.
