Description
This issue is a spinout of this [comment](https://github.com/jdereus/labman/pull/468#discussion_r278258070). In brief, it is to explore when the plate modal should be hidden vs. blocking re-opening of the modal vs. presenting to the user a "waiting" message for operations that may run for a reasonable length of time.
