Description

Hi! I bought my BTT Pi 2 when it was first released (around April 2024).

I’m trying to flash the latest OS images directly to the eMMC, but the process keeps failing.

It seems that the firmware/bootloader/kernel on my early BTT Pi 2 might be outdated and incompatible with the newer operating system versions.

So far, I’ve only been able to install Debian 11 (v1) successfully — newer versions like Debian 12 or 12 (v3 and v2) don’t finish writing properly.

Is there any way to update the bootloader/firmware/kernel on my board so I can use the latest OS images?

Research direction

Start by reproducing the eMMC flashing failure on the early BTT Pi 2 with Debian 11 and the newer Debian 12 images, then compare the board's bootloader, firmware, and kernel versions. Done means identifying an update path that allows the newer images to install, or documenting that the early hardware is incompatible.
