Description
ECCC received the following comment from a member of the public:
The Regions of BC **highlighted on the map** are being impacted or are likely to be impacted by wildfire smoke over the next 24-48 hours.
If a user reads this alert on your website, this message makes sense because the map is right below the text. [Air quality warning in effect for wildfire smoke – Air quality warnings](https://aqwarnings.gov.bc.ca/warnings/2026-08-05_wildfire_smoke_issue.html)
The same goes for the alert map page on Weather Office. If the user reads the alert by selecting a region off the alert map, then it makes sense.
But if a user reads the alert from the alert banner on a city page, for example, Lower Nicola [Lower Nicola, BC - 7 Day Forecast - Environment Canada](https://can01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fweather.gc.ca%2Fen%2Flocation%2Findex.html%3Fcoords%3D50.160%2C-120.878&data=05%7C02%7Cben.weinstein%40gov.bc.ca%7Ce1f3150c17e245c4de0208def3e11a60%7C6fdb52003d0d4a8ab036d3685e359adc%7C0%7C0%7C639216345293281088%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=ZfqgdjqHdPTaCCpNKLYVExsUk9pM0SEjZ8Y%2F7Vda3c4%3D&reserved=0), there is no map for them to look at.
This is the same on the WeatherCan App. If the user reads the alert on the WeatherCan App, there is no map to look at.
Here are a couple of suggestions for the next time you revise this text.
Remove “highlighted on the map” and say: These Regions of BC are being impacted or are likely to be impacted by wildfire smoke over the next 24-48 hours
You could add your website to the first line: The Regions of BC highlighted on the map (https://aqwarnings.gov.bc.ca/) are being impacted or are likely to be impacted by wildfire smoke over the next 24-48 hours.
Thanks
