Description

Background:

Registries applications including STRR will need to be able to allow FirstNations names in text fields. We need to determine the impact of allowing these new names and character sets, with particular attention to street names

From the City of Vancouver: https://vancouver.ca/people-programs/musqueamview-st.aspx

> At a renaming ceremony in 2022, xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band) gifted the City of Vancouver with a new street name to replace Trutch Street.
>
> After significant collaboration with Musqueam, the City is excited to share with residents that starting June 17, 2025, Trutch Street’s new name will be:
>
> Legal name: šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmasəm Street
> English translation: Musqueamview Street
> The legal name will be used in official City records, maps, and some government databases. The English translation will be used where the legal name cannot currently be displayed, such as mail delivery systems.

What could the impact be if we were to allow FirstNations street names but platforms have not yet caught up? Could we enable an alternate name field? A 'previously known as' field?
