Description
This funding is given when:
Applicants for full-time studies have been awarded disability-related funding (approved disability and show a minimum of $1 of need) AND
Student is attending one of 2 approved post-secondary programs for deaf students at either Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. (code MULH) or the National Technical Institute for the Deaf in Rochester, NY (code NQGA).
○ Identification of eligible students occurs through the Education Data Warehouse (EDW) via a dashboard display for the BC Access Grant for Deaf Students. When students are identified, an accompanying email notification is sent to DPT staff. (The EDW is updated weekly with activity from SFAS, SAIL and ATBC.)
○ AT-BC verifies that the student’s authorized disability has an auditory component.
○ Cheque is disbursed through CAS payment requisition.
○ Grants are disbursed once per term, typically twice per year through CAS.
○ Prior to cheque requests, SFAS is queried for confirmation of enrolment and no withdrawal, and no restrictions that would affect eligibility or amount of disbursement (e.g., weekly maximum, overawards, etc).
I don’t have all the information about SFAS/EDW reliance, and exactly which parts are automated, but I wanted to throw this program on the teams radar for further discussion.
