Description
Widespread on gentles slopes and level areas. Stands consist of pure Pl or dominant Pl stands with some Sx and Bl.
Modelled response shows moderate decline in Pl and moderate to good feasibility of Fd throughout. Sx and Bl show sharp decline over time. Lw shows moderate maintenance at about 50% over time.
Again, I think the model identifies much of the area as IDFdk1 at the start and therefore over-emphazises the suitability of Fd which is risky as I think frost risk is a significant issue in the MSxk2. I think it should increase over time similar to Lw and may require protection to get established. Likewise I don't think Pl and Sx decline quite as quickly as indicated by the model but I think both Sx and, more so, Bl are at their limits in terms of drought tolerance on these sites. They are likely restricted to steep cool aspects moving forwards.

Research direction
No files, tests, or entry points are named. Begin by locating the model output and the MSxk2/101 Pl, Pinegrass, Grouseberry, and Feather moss data, then determine how the reported species responses and IDFdk1 classification are produced; the issue is done only when the model behavior matches an agreed ecological review.
