Description
Gentle slopes and level areas on coarse soils. Stands are a mix of Pl and Sxw with some Bl regen. On granitic nutrient-poor coarse soils.
Future scenarios show declining Pl, Bl, and Sx. Fd, Lw, Py and Bg show moderate increases and Cw and Hw show some increased feasibility. This is possible but these sites tend to be at higher elevations somewhat influenced by colder temperatures and may have some cold air drainage. It really depends on wether or not the area where the MSxk1 occurs on broad plateaus becomes sufficiently warmer that extreme events particularly in the winter no longer occur. I would be reluctant to promote Cw and Hw on these sites given the uncertainty around climate futures on this site and would stick with Fd. Also depends on whether or not early spring frosts which currently limit Fd will persist into the future. Otherwise Fd may beed overstorey protection from frost.
