Description

I dont understand how Py or Fd show feaisibility in the future on grassland sites. I would expect these sites to become increasingly less suitable for tree species. Most grasslands occur on fine-textured soils which are better equipped to trap any moisture in the upper soil horizons before the moisture can reach deeper tree roots. Likewise, on coarse-textured soils, trees are more likely to be established as moisture is able to reach deeper soil horizons. The difference in edatopic features between grasslands and forests is a more likely deterrent in limiting the shift of a grassland to a forest in future modelled scenarios.

Research direction

No files, tests, or entry points are named. Start by locating the definitions of IDFdk1/Gg, Py, and Fd and the grassland feasibility outputs, then compare their assumptions with the soil and edatopic concerns described here. Done would require an agreed explanation or a defined model change, but the issue does not specify which.
