Sometimes logging in takes several seconds

**Describe the bug**
Sometimes (not exactly clear when), logging in takes several seconds (> 10)

**To Reproduce**
Steps to reproduce the behavior:
1. Open Basalt Desktop
2. Attempt to log in

**Expected behavior**
Logging in should be almost instantaneous, especially when running locally

Start by reproducing the login flow in Basalt Desktop, comparing local runs with the reported delay of more than 10 seconds. Trace the login entry point and measure where the time is spent; done means identifying and addressing the source of the delay so local login is nearly instantaneous.
