Cypress-split not working with cypress version <10 with cucumber

I am trying to run the cypress-split with cypress version <10 and with cucumber. It does not seem to be picking the feature files. Instead its picking up everything that is not feature file (all .js files) . . Could it be made generic to work with cypress versions <10
