Data Set Preparation and Loading

The Azavea Data Analytics team will prepare the data for each state. This will involve the following steps: (1) developing configuration files for legislative bodies, total population, and number of districts; and (2) processing census data by extracting demographic data from the Census API and matching to blockgroup polygons, with a state or county parameter. Demographic data will include Asian/Pacific Islander Population, Black Population, Hispanic Population, Other Race, Native Population, White Population, Total Population, and Incarcerated Population (group quarters). They will then merge demographics and geometry into a single GeoJSON file (for each state) and convert GeoJSON to TopoJSON.
