Feature request - CI/CD pipeline w/ integration and unit tests

We've had a number of changes that have been merged that cause issues upon execution. This can be mitigated via the addition of Unit/Integration tests and a CI/CD pipeline to ensure that the tests run successfully prior to merging a PR.

The issue does not name files, tests, or a CI provider. Start by inventorying the repository's Python utilities and existing test coverage, then determine the unit and integration test scope and how checks should run before pull requests can merge. Done means the agreed tests run successfully in CI before merging.
