Description
> **Initiative** — a body of work too big for one release, expressing a vision. Never-tracked container; the board tracks its children. Relates to roadmap #691 (Improved Graph Rendering) and #1486 (Schema Explorer Enhancements).
## Vision
Give users real control over how the graph is **arranged** on the canvas: a richer set of layout algorithms, the ability to configure a layout's options (spacing, edge length, direction), and reliable persistence of layout choices and node positions. Today layout is a small fixed set with little tuning, and choices don't always survive across sessions or saved graphs.
## Scoping
Not yet charted. See the kickoff child (`wayfinder:kickoff`). Run `/wayfinder` against this initiative to create the map; the kickoff closes when the map is created.
## For the current release
Only **research + scoping** is being considered for v3.3, and this is a **new, not-yet-prioritized (P3)** initiative — it may not be scheduled this cycle. (Note: two concrete layout-persistence features, #890 and #1430, are committed to v3.3 independently of this scoping.)

Research direction
The issue names no implementation files or tests; begin with the `wayfinder:kickoff` child and run `/wayfinder` against initiative #2017 to create the scope map. Done for this issue means the research and scoping map exists and the kickoff can close; implementation work is explicitly out of scope.
