Description
Filing this on behalf of endoflife.date/eks, where we track EKS Extended Support releases using https://docs.aws.amazon.com/eks/latest/userguide/platform-versions.html
I can't find any tags for the following listed releases:
- 1.26.15 eks.40
- 1.26.15 eks.35
- 1.24.17 eks.44
- 1.24.17 eks.39
At first I thought it might be because these are now Extended Support releases only. But the 1.25.16-eks.40 has a corresponding [EKS-D tag published](https://github.com/aws/eks-distro/releases/tag/v1-25-eks-40), despite it being a Extended Support release that got deployed to EKS in Jan-2025.
Additionally 1.24 and 1.26 are listed in the [SUPPORTED_RELEASE_BRANCHES](https://github.com/aws/eks-distro/blob/main/release/SUPPORTED_RELEASE_BRANCHES).
It would be nice to either see the tags published for these missing releases, or some clarity on what releases are held back from EKS-D.

Research direction
Start by comparing the listed versions with the AWS EKS platform-versions page, the EKS-D release tags, and the repository's SUPPORTED_RELEASE_BRANCHES file. The issue asks either for tags for the four missing releases or an explanation of which releases are held back; completion means resolving that discrepancy. The discussion has had no response for over 180 days.
