Description

Title: Pinned @workspace context not automatically included in chat messages

Version, dont know how to find it, and amazon q gives wrong instructions, should be latest?

intellij version 2025.2.2 (Community Edition)

amazon q keeps telling me this:

"To add your workspace as context, enable local indexing in your IDE settings. After enabling, add @workspace to your question, and I'll generate a response using your workspace as context."

I have @Active file and @workspace pinned in the context, and see these icons in the question panel.

If I open amazon q settings, "Workspace Index" is already checked.

If I ask amazon q what my active file is (the one Im editing now), it doesnt see it, I have to give it the file name.

If I ask amazon q to search for something, it says I need to use @workspace infront, or it gives me a find command to run. This is slow and tedious.

As far as I can tell, the pinned context in the question panel does not work at all.

It has been like this since I started using it at least 6 months. REbooting does not help.

Research direction

Start by reproducing the problem in IntelliJ 2025.2.2 with @Active file and @workspace pinned and Workspace Index enabled. Check whether chat requests include the pinned contexts and whether searches still require explicit context; done means both pinned contexts are automatically used.

Written by the indexing model from the issue text.
