Description

It has become clear there is a significant issue regrading rigs in low-swell environments, bird fouling, and a general unwillingness from associates to maintain their rigs. in oceanic environments, the waves wash over top of the panels and clean them for us, but that perk is not extended to environments like reservoirs, lakes and potentially even salt water inlets. which are the main target areas for network blue schools. RecFish SA's Myponga rig recently went down because the panels were coated in muck. in the mean-time we have to continue to stress the importance of maintenance to our associates and discuss shorter maintenance cycles for low-swell environments. which I'm anticipating could be something of a deterrent for people wanting their own rig

There are a few commonly used options for repelling birds, such as bird spikes, reflective ribbons, netting barriers or even fake snakes, but they'd look really tacky on a rig... it may be an acceptable solution to say if a custom wants to install that on their rig of their own volition then that's fine, but they definitely won't be standard rig features that we include in any kind of kit we send out.

In the longer term, it could be cool one day to integrate a motion sensing water 'pistol' that pumps from the body of water below it to spray birds that land on the panels. I'm imagining this is perched on the end of the centre bar so that one pistol can cover both panels. unsure whether this would need to cloud integrated so it can be turned off during maintenance, or maybe just a manual switch that can be flicked off at the back. hopefully with this bird deterrent in place it could significantly lengthen the maintenance cycle for those unenthused about cleaning bird poo off panels...

Research direction

The issue does not identify any files, tests, or implementation entry points. It describes a possible motion-sensing water sprayer and unresolved choices about cloud integration or a manual switch, so the scope and definition of done would need to be established before implementation.
