Active icon color different than original

I don't understand the issue I am having with the active icon color. I am even using setDrawable() in OnTabSelectedListener, and I see a difference in color, but it is not the real color of my active icon. Why is that? Am I missing something? See picture (left is the active icon pressed, right is the real active icon)

Start by reproducing the color difference shown in the supplied screenshot and inspect the OnTabSelectedListener path where setDrawable() is used. Compare the selected icon's displayed color with the original drawable color. Done means identifying the cause and documenting or correcting the active-icon behavior.
