Research direction
Start by reproducing the issue in Audacity on Windows: choose French in Preferences, load a project, and open the Metadata Editor. Locate the template toolbar and inspect how its button sizes respond to translated labels; done means the labels are fully visible without cropping in the reported language and the surrounding toolbar still works.
