API cleanup to make it more self consistent

E.g. https://github.com/astropy/astroquery/pull/3073#discussion_r1687008030, but I'm certain there are way more cases of very similar methods through the different modules with somewhat different names and different signature.

It would be nice to make things more consistent overall.

Start with the API inconsistency discussed in PR #3073, then inventory similar methods across the astroquery modules and compare their names and signatures. The issue does not identify specific files or tests; done would require an agreed scope and consistent APIs across the affected modules.
