Description

Hi all-- read through #51 and left a comment, but was suggested to open up a new issue.

I'm trying to support code that uses the nis library with uv / python-build-standalone. Unsure if this is functionality that you all are looking to add back or not. I would take a look at implementing this myself, but I have little to no rust experience, so that might not be the best idea. Doesn't look as simple as reverting the commit (6fe9b705401d7e9e2b45b497ee88d91c570fac0a) that removed it in the first place. If there is no interest in adding back this functionality, does anyone have any suggestions/workarounds that could help me? Thanks so much.

Research direction

Start by reading issue #51 and commit 6fe9b705401d7e9e2b45b497ee88d91c570fac0a to understand why nis was removed. Then determine whether python-build-standalone intends to restore this functionality and what implementation scope or workaround is appropriate. The issue does not define a concrete completion criterion.
