Description
Problem
Invalid JSON or an upstream DeepSeek failure can currently propagate as an unhandled exception.
Acceptance criteria
- Handle JSON parsing failures and relevant client errors.
- Return a controlled API error for HTTP requests and a controlled message for WebSockets.
- Add tests for malformed model output and an upstream failure.

Research direction
Start by tracing the FastAPI HTTP and WebSocket handlers that call DeepSeek. Add tests covering malformed model JSON and an upstream client failure, then verify HTTP requests return a controlled API error while WebSocket clients receive a controlled message.
