Research direction

Start by reproducing the Serial.write(0) compiler error with Arduino 101, Arduino MO, and chipKIT uC32 using Arduino 1.8.1, then inspect the Serial.write API entry point. Done means the same call compiles consistently on the affected boards without breaking the existing Arduino Uno and Mega behavior.
