Description

If the monitor is left open while lots is printing, Arduino IDE needs to be force-quit.

This is almost certainly a memory leak or some other kind of memory management mistake that needs to be fixed.

Research direction

No file or test is named. Start by reproducing the crash in the OSX Serial Monitor while sustained output is printing, then trace the Arduino IDE 1.x monitor code and measure memory use; done means the workload no longer causes unbounded memory growth or requires force-quitting.
