Description
The IDE disconnects the Serial Monitor after Compiling and doesn't know which port it had. This makes it very difficult to troubleshoot. The Serial Port has to be re-selected after each compile.

Research direction
Reproduce the disconnect in Arduino IDE 1.x with an MKR WiFi 1010 selected and the Serial Monitor open, then trace what happens to the selected port during compilation. Done means the Serial Monitor retains or restores the previously selected port after compiling, without requiring manual re-selection.
