mathabx package: widehat and widecheck

The commands widehat and widecheck, which I imported from the mathabx Latex package as described here https://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/249352/is-there-a-widecheck-like-widehat do not display correctly. Instead, they display as red font words "widehat" and "widecheck".
