Description
**[Thomas Scheffler](https://issues.apache.org/jira/secure/ViewProfile.jspa?name=thosch)** opened **[MCHANGES-389](https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/MCHANGES-389?redirect=false)** and commented
[Using a Custom Announcement Template](https://maven.apache.org/plugins/maven-changes-plugin/examples/using-a-custom-announcement-template.html) states that `${release.description`} can be used in templates. This does not work with Jira where the release has a description set.

Research direction
Start with the linked “Using a Custom Announcement Template” documentation and the handling of Jira releases in the Maven Changes Plugin. Verify how a Jira release description is exposed to the `${release.description}` template variable, and consider the issue complete when that variable is populated for releases with descriptions.
