Research direction

Start by reading the feature conversation in Discussion #1651 and clarify the intended OAuth providers and authorization flow. No source files, tests, or entry points are named in the issue, so the implementation scope must be established first. Done would mean users can authorize with supported business or popular-provider accounts without requiring separately maintained LDAP or Kerberos components.
