### Question
I noticed that the Kafka connect plugin does not have any proper distribution channel and needs to be built from source: https://iceberg.apache.org/docs/nightly/kafka-connect/. I was wondering what's the current status to publish the plugin to for example Maven or Apache downloads/dist or is there such plans?
I found some existing bugs and PRs in the past, e.g. https://github.com/apache/iceberg/pull/15212 but those were never fully solved or merged.
Thanks!

Research direction
Start with the Kafka Connect documentation at https://iceberg.apache.org/docs/nightly/kafka-connect/ and review the unresolved context in pull request #15212. Determine the intended distribution channel and scope before proposing work; done would mean an agreed, maintainable way to publish the plugin rather than requiring users to build it from source.
