Grails project view continually collapses

When anything refreshes, the Grails view collapses to a single entry. This is extremely annoying.
Examples of things that collapse the view:
- running an sql file from a plugin on a db
- refreshing dependencies
- looking at it sideways

Reproduce the issue in IntelliJ IDEA 2016.3 with the Grails view, then try the listed refresh actions: running a plugin SQL file, refreshing dependencies, and changing the view orientation. Trace where the view hierarchy is refreshed and preserve its expanded entries; done means these actions no longer collapse the view to one entry.
