Description

The idea is to have a 1st class Prometheus plugin for ActiveMQ, similar to what RabbitMQ provides.

Some handy features might be metric aggregation, avoiding JMX MBean overhead, user-based auth for metrics, and not needing to expose JMX RMI ports.

Does it make more sense to extend the OpenTelemetry plugin for this (https://github.com/apache/activemq/issues/1768)?

Is there any interest in a Prometheus specific plugin if I were to develop it?

Research direction

Start by reviewing the existing OpenTelemetry plugin referenced in issue 1768 and comparing the requested capabilities with RabbitMQ’s Prometheus support. Before implementation, clarify whether the project wants a Prometheus-specific plugin or an OpenTelemetry extension, and define the required aggregation, authentication, JMX, and metric behavior.
