Description
It is clear that the model object can specify nodes and edges, and when the layout is created from it, it works perfectly.
But is there a way to specify ports within the nodes - and then also specify edges that connects separate ports.
Can this use-case be solved?

Research direction
The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. Start by reviewing the public model and layout APIs and their existing node and edge representations; done would require a clear decision and specification for port-based nodes and port-to-port edges.
