`contents: write` permission required?

I wanted to limit the permissions for the Claude app, so I am following the documentation (https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code-action/blob/main/docs/setup.md#using-a-custom-github-app) to create a Custom App and define permissions myself.

I've come across various Issues where that was the [recommended solution](https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code-action/issues/474#issuecomment-3210213252). The documentation, however, [notes that]:(https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code-action/blob/main/docs/setup.md#using-a-custom-github-app:~:text=...%20other%20configuration-,Important%20notes%3A,-The%20custom%20app)
_"The custom app must have read/write permissions for Issues, Pull Requests, and Contents"_

Can I not limit the `contents` permission to just `read` access in my Custom App?
