Description

[REQUIRED] Use case description

I need a straightforward way to verify if a URI is supported by ExoPlayer/CompositionPlayer (i.e. has a matching Extractor) so I can warn users before playback errors (e.g. GIFs). Right now I’ve copied the BundledExtractorsAdapter.init(...) logic and run each extractor’s sniff() manually—but that’s verbose and brittle.

Proposed solution

Add a helper method:

object MediaCapabilities {
  fun isInputFormatSupported(context: Context, uri: Uri): Boolean
}

which internally performs the extractor check.

Alternatives considered

Manually replicating BundledExtractorsAdapter’s implementation in my app, which is error-prone and hard to keep in sync.
