Keyboard navigation using Classic theme

Description
On the demo site, using the classic theme, using the keyboard (up/down/left/right) doesn't seem to work (on a Macbook Pro anyway). I found a site I created ages ago using v3.5.3 and the keyboard navigation works.
Any idea as to what's involved to fix this/turn it back on?
