Trying to install AltStore on my iPad Pro 11 inch results in AltServer silently closing

Description
AltServer silently crashes or closes upon trying to install AltStore. I have made sure that the mail plugin is enabled and that Mail is running but that is the result of my testing.
happens after I attempt to authenticate to install AltStore.
Device: M1 iPad Pro (11 inch)
Mac: 2017 15 inch MacBook Pro (i7)
macOS: Big Sur, 11.2.3
