Description

1: Altstore is taking a lot of storage space on my phone, around 12gb. clearing the cache does nothing to fix the issue. Is there a way to fix this?
2: How do I update apps sideloaded from a .ipa without losing the data? I tried just installing it without uninstalling the old version, but it just froze and eventually crashed, resulting in the app being un-openable without logging any errors. (edit: same as this or issue #1074) Deleting it and reinstalling the new version works but then I have to set it up again and it's annoying.

Research direction

No files, tests, or entry points are named; begin by reproducing the reported 12 GB storage growth and the failed in-place .ipa update on an iPhone. Done means identifying the cause and a supported way to update apps without losing their data, or documenting why that is not possible.
