This looks REALLY good, although I confess I would prefer to enter the metadata when I make a capture, as opposed to right at login (maybe I haven't decided which tray I am using, or I have several samples and I'm not sure which I'm doing first....) ... but that also might just be because I'm used to logging on and getting to look at the nice camera feed before I have to decide what I'm doing with it. 😆 I am guessing you put it at the very beginning so users don't have to enter it over and over again when taking multiple captures of the same sample for training purposes, which makes sense for that use-case but maybe not so much for typical users who are only going to take a few captures to get a specific result.
The "magnification" number that the Tagarno gives us (in the upper right corner of the photos) is unfortunately specific to the size of monitor. The same magnification from the microscope will show as bigger if you have a 32" monitor vs a 24", for example. So I don't think this is a particularly useful number to record, unfortunately. ☹️
I would call the box "Sample ID" not "Sample ID Prefix" (I know you are going to add more numbers to the end, but as a user it's confusing because I don't think of my sample number as a prefix).
Is it possible to allow periods in the sample number? I don't know how common it is, but our herbarium specimens typically have them. If there's an operational reason not to, could we just replace them with a - automatically?
I like having the "sample descriptions" box, but I don't think filling it in should be mandatory.
I like this little synopsis---could we perhaps find space to show it (as well as tray selected) on the main screen, so that you can remind yourself of what your current metadata is? That could be helpful if you are going from one sample to another, or if you change trays or something.
Question---does the camera feed coming from the microscope contain identifying information about make/type? Could that be used to auto-populate the "microscope" field? If not or if it's too complicated, no worries.
Just noticed one more thing---when you upload a picture (single, not the batch version) from the hard-drive, it overwrites the original name with the current specimen ID from the metadata. This doesn't seem ideal. Would it be possible to have it ask you for the metadata settings again when uploading an image, maybe defaulting the sample ID to the name of the picture you are uploading?
Thank you so much and it's looking great!!!!
