Description

It would be good if there was a way to cancel a request before it has finished, in order to free up the server from working on that job and move on to other things.

This is important as queries can be of arbitrary complexity, and sometimes you don't know how costly a query is going to be until you try it.

Research direction

The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. Start by tracing how requests reach query execution and how cancellation could stop server-side work; done would mean an in-progress request can be cancelled and its query work is released.
