paper-tooltip leave handler not working properly on mobile

When rendered on mobile (tested in Chrome on Android and iOS on iPhone) tooltips do not auto hide properly (tap on element and tooltip renders => tap on another element and tooltip persists). I’ve tried various approaches but am left thinking that the best next step would be to extend the component and use jQuery to deal with it. This feels like a missed opportunity because I’m sure others must be using these components in the way we are. Very happy to do the donkey work but any ideas on the best way to implement a solution would be welcome. Thank all.
