`SympyStepper` causes an exception on volume material backward propagation

Currently the `SympyStepper` will cause an exception during backward propagation with volume material. This case is not implemented yet and will result in negative path lengths through material. What needs to be done here is that we decrease the covariance. I think material path lengths should remain to only support positive path length values.
