Description

How do I tell actions/checkout to fetch all the commits up to the fork point? I want all the commits up to the fork point from the base branch. I don't see any examples on how to do this in the README. I'd assume this is a common need.

First steps

  1. Read the whole issue, then the project's contributing guide.
  2. Comment on the issue to say you are picking it up — it saves two people doing the same work.
  3. Fork the repository and make your change on a branch.
  4. Open a pull request that references the issue number.

Research direction

Start by reviewing the README's checkout and fetch guidance, then inspect the documented actions/checkout options related to fetching history. Add an example showing how to obtain commits through the fork point from the base branch, and verify that the wording clearly explains the resulting history.
