Description

Tell us how we can improve Xcodes

Add support the feature request under Xcodes

Would it be possible to add a feature to run scripts before and after certain events
I think this would have to be configure in a config file using $XDG_CONFIG_HOME.
Some of the hooks could be

pre-upgrade
post-upgrade
pre-install
post-install
pre-uninstall
post-uninstall
pre-switch
post-switch

for xcodesapp add

  • starting xcodes app
  • closing xcodes app

these could trigger the execution of scripts (python, ruby, pearl, apples script, swift using hash bang, apps (apps or helpers) or shortcuts .

These could provide many solutions to solve problems some examples

clean ups
back ups
change paths or variables
create/remove links
update/install/uninstall other dev apps
download code, libraries, apps and plugins
Use third party notifications and chat systems
extra logging
communicate with web services
x-callback other apps
Apple Shortcuts
ci/cd
They could optionally pass some basic arguments such as type, short name , bundle id, version, log name, path , url , etc

Research direction

No implementation file, test, or entry point is named. Start by reading the linked Xcodes feature request (#385) and the existing XcodesApp event flows, then determine the configuration and hook lifecycle needed for the listed events. Done should include a decided scope for supported hooks, script arguments, and app-versus-CLI behavior.
